Mahaut Portief
Founder of L’Éqquipage
Mahaut Portier comes from a family line of tanners spanning more than eight generations. Trained as an art historian and passionate about traditional craftsmanship, she founded L’Équipage after an earlier venture in made-to-order leather goods, driven by her love of the finest French leathers.
With L’Équipage, she set out to create leather goods that are simple, durable, accessible, and in step with today’s changing habits of consumption. The leathers come from the dormant stock of France’s leading tanneries, often originally destined for luxury houses. She selects them with a collector’s eye, transforming them into accessories designed to last, develop a rich patina, and be passed down.
After testing her first collection at markets in Brittany, the brand caught the attention of Le Bon Marché and major companies looking for sustainable corporate gifts.
For the past 5 years, L’Équipage has won over individual customers and major French companies alike, all in search of responsible craftsmanship.
